COVID-19 Updates

Happy students in face masks

Latest Update

St. Michaels University School is open and students are attending in-person classes, 100% of the time on our campuses. Boarding students continue to live on campus. We currently have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among our community of students and staff. Almost all SMUS faculty, staff and coaches, alongside many other members of our community, have been double vaccinated.

Our school is fortunate that during the pandemic, the city of Victoria has seen a comparatively low number of cases of COVID-19.

The health and wellbeing of our community remains the top priority and, though the risk is low, the school is maintaining a cautious approach with enhanced cleaning protocols and strict adherence to Provincial health orders, including the requirements around the wearing of face masks.

Head of School, Mark Turner, sent a welcome back letter to parents and staff. The points relevant to COVID-19 are summarized below.

  • In line with the directive from the province of British Columbia, masks will remain mandatory for all Grade 4 to 12 students, faculty and staff in classrooms, common areas and all indoor spaces. The Junior School will publish expectations about Kindergarten to Grade 3.
  • Mandatory cohort restrictions have been lifted. This will create many more flexible opportunities for students.
  • In line with our plan to ensure the safety of our students and staff, we will be starting with a cautious approach and aiming to gradually ease restrictions as we move toward Thanksgiving. We will also be pursuing the same tactic that served us so well last year, and plan to maximize the opportunities and learning experiences of our students, while fully complying with regulations and guidelines.
  • We strongly recommend and encourage all eligible students, staff and faculty to be vaccinated, so we can all return as confident as possible in how the next few months may unfold. We wait for more information on the BC vaccine card and what impact it may have on school activities.
