1965-1966
As a result of the very generous donation from Mr. Stanley Barker (who sent five boys to the school) the Barker library is built and officially opened on June 4th.

1967-1968
First ever visit of a British Public School's XV to Canada—Trinity College, Glenalmond.

1969-1970
A Senior on Sports Day mistakes the Headmaster's instruction for "three cheers", first for "three chairs", which he produced and then, on correction, for "three beers", which sadly, were not forthcoming.

K.W. Symons retires as Headmaster and is succeeded by Mr. Peter Caleb who was to become the first Headmaster of St. Michaels University School.

1971-1972
Amalgamation of University School and St. Michael's School occurs.

1973-1974
The School enrols grade 1 and grade 2 students for the first time. "The Animal Husbandry is 'big' in Harvey House this year. One white mouse in particular was luckily rescued by a prefect from the washing machine, thus saving both the mouse and Mrs. Harlow from an unforgettable experience!" (Peter Gardiner)

1974-1975
The International Baccalaureate office in Geneva accepts the International Baccalaureate status of the school.

1978-1979
Girls enter the school and boarding life for the first time (18 years later, the ratio is almost 50/50).

SMUS welcomes the Year of the Girls

SMUS welcomes the "Year of the Girls"
September, 1978

1980-1981
The first set of girls to enter SMUS in grade 10 graduate from the school.

1981-1982
Old Boy Russell Challoner dies in a flying mishap and leaves his estate to SMUS. The Classroom Block is re-named in honour of Russell Challoner by the Lt. Governor of British Columbia. Challoner, among other things, introduced the first ballpoint pen to the school and was the first Day Boy to require special permission to drive his own car onto the quad and leave it there the whole day.
