1948-1949
J.J. Timmis arrives as Headmaster, leaving
his school, St. Christopher School, to do so.
On November 15th, the boys and some of the staff
of Brentwood College are transferred to University School after
the disastrous fire in August, 1947 which destroyed nearly all
of their school buildings. Brentwood College as a result is amalgamated
with University School.
The Old House System is revived and the School is
divided into two houses: Founders, to commemorate those three
outstanding men, and Brentwood, to commemorate the former college.
1949-1950
A new three-oven burning range is installed in the kitchen
and the heating system is overhauled and changed from light
oil to heavy oil. A booster was also installed so that inhabitants
of upper dormitories would no longer believe they were trainees
for Arctic exercise!
1950-1951
Surface drains are dug around Harvey House. "These,
like the treasure of the Incas, had been lost to view for so
long that research in the Archives and again with spades and
shovels had failed to reveal them so that new drains were inevitable:
but at least the Winter Sport of Sailing in the Trunk Room
should no longer be a compulsory activity!"
For the first time ever, the School is visited—on
the same day—by the Fire Inspectors, Health Inspectors, and Plumping
Inspectors, much to the surprise and dismay of the Headmaster.
1951-1952
Crusaders Rugger Club is formed for Old Boys of all schools
and newcomers to Victoria.
Major Wise presents the School with
a handsome hand-carved sign for the school entrance in honour
of Ray Calton, O.B.
