1930-1931
K.C. Symons celebrates his 50th Birthday with ice-cream and he
treats the whole school to ice cream cones. This later becomes
a tradition—June 2nd is "Ice Cream Day".
1936-1937
The school grounds are completely enclosed by a fence—"...it
is hoped that the days when a horse appeared on the Cricket Pitch
and ducks waddled across the 'Quad' are gone forever" (C.F.
Genge)
An Old Boy makes a most generous donation of $100
to start a Bursary Fund to help some children who might otherwise
not be able to afford to attend St. Michael's.
1937-1938
The School buys its first radio to keep up to date with any
war news.
1938-1939
Mr. J.C. Barnacle, one of the Founders and former Headmaster
of the School, passes away in Barbados.
"Early September, an outrage of appalling audacity
rocks the school. No less ludicrous an animal than a cow violates
the Impenetrable Fence and by the Headmaster's own personal authority
is expelled."
1941-1942
The Ker Cup is awarded jointly for the first time in the
history of the Cup.
1943-1944
The boys dig a potato patch and donate the net proceeds
of this crop to the Red Cross.
March 1st, 1944—the 600th boy is enrolled
at St. Michael's.
1945-1946
K.C. Symons moves into a room in town with old friends, and
K.W. Symons takes over most of the responsibilities of running
the school with the help of his brother Ned Symons (affectionately
referred to as "Uncle Ned").
1946-1947
Mr. W.W. Bolton, the last surviving Founder of University
School, passes away in Tahiti on July 28th, 1946 at the age
of 88.
1947-1948
Rev. George Herbert Scarrett, who served as
Assistant Master, and then as Headmaster for 28 years, passes
away.
A half-holiday is declared on the wedding day of
T.H. Princess Elizabeth and the Duke
of Edinburgh.
K.C. Symons writes a history of the school, entitled
